Safety Smock Maintenance

Warning

  • All pieces of clothing can be used to kill in some way. Not only belts and shoelaces, but also underwear, socks and possibly gowns specially designed to be safe.  Every possible protective measure should e followed including frequent and irregularly timed checks.

Use Instructions

  • Have inmate remove all clothes, including underwear and socks.  Exchange for the smock.  Scratchy “hook” side faces in: Fuzzy “loop side faces out.

One size fits almost all.  Garment can be adjusted for length at the shoulders.  Put the smock on handcuffed or restrained inmates by undoing then redoing at the shoulder adjustments.

Maintenance Instructions

  • Machine wash, tumble dry.  The garment may be laundered using any standard disinfection process, including hot water, high concentration of chlorine bleach and hot dryer.  Avoid washing with lint producing items, the nylon fasteners will become clogged and won’t hold well, but can be combed out with a fine-toothed comb or stiff brush
  • Any fabric will wear out faster if washed repeatedly with chlorine bleach and temperatures above 140.
